Carleton University

Leads the development of the University's next institutional strategy within its 2042 centenary horizon, reporting to the President. Accountable for the governance and strategy architecture, for the integrity and quality of the process, and for its progression through Senate endorsement to Board of Governors approval in April 2027.

Founding director of a community-owned corporate group holding a diversified portfolio of operating businesses. Chair of the CEO compensation committee; member of the audit and finance, strategy, and board renewal committees. Annual revenue has grown from approximately $1 million to approximately $40 million over the period of the directorship.

Strategic oversight of a private company group in reforestation, ecological restoration and living infrastructure, where long-term value is shaped by carbon, biodiversity and land-use policy. Compensation and strategy committees.

Founding Assistant Dean, Indigenous Business Education, and Director, Ch'nook

2011 to 2014

Sauder School of Business, University of British Columbia

Built and led a distributed education network across more than twenty-five post-secondary institutions, with partnerships spanning Indigenous communities, governments, corporations and philanthropy. Recruited and led a team of seven. More than CAD 3 million raised in scholarships and endowed bursaries, including a CAD 2.5 million endowment from the Joyce Family Foundation. Recognised with the Government of Canada's Deputy Minister's Recognition Award for Collaboration and Partnership.

Segal Graduate School of Business, Simon Fraser University

Full profit and loss accountability for an executive education business of approximately CAD 2 million in annual revenue, a team of fourteen, and fifteen to twenty custom programmes a year. Authored the Integrated Consulting Methodology and the Integrated Learning Methodology. The unit received the Canadian Council on Learning Award for Excellence in Learning in 2009.

Client organisations during the tenure

Clients spanned mining and resources, energy and utilities, technology, engineering, insurance and financial services, professional services, pharmaceuticals and healthcare, in Canada and internationally.

The work ranged from single workshops to multi-year programmes: a customised graduate diploma and MBA in sustainable business delivered on mine sites, a corporate university management series built over eight years, integrated leadership development spanning two levels of management, and action learning projects sponsored and assessed by client executive teams.

Founding Associate Dean, Equity and Inclusive Communities

2020 to 2023

Sprott School of Business, Carleton University

Established a new senior leadership portfolio spanning organisational culture, faculty and student experience, academic policy and external engagement. Member of Faculty Executive.

Accountable for faculty-wide hiring governance across all permanent and contract appointments, including the search and selection frameworks themselves and their integration with institutional academic policy. Served on the selection committees for the Robbins-Ollivier Award for Excellence in Equity and the university's student research award in the same field, and guest edited a journal special issue on the subject.

Founded and ran a live production company for a decade as an owner-operator, carrying contracting and capital risk. Production and tour management from clubs and theatres through to arenas, stadiums and festivals, for artists including Tina Turner, Rush, Radiohead, ZZ Top, Tom Jones, Elvis Costello and David Byrne. That work became the empirical basis of the Cambridge doctoral research.

Senior Manager and Global Lead for the music industry within Accenture's communications, media and entertainment practice from 2000 to 2002. Led digital transformation and platform strategy engagements for multinational clients across Europe, Asia and North America, including digital content and rights management strategy through the sector's disruption. Clients included Cisco, AT&T, Warner Music Group, SAP and BUMA/STEMRA.

Earlier, Senior Lecturer and Director of the MA in Music Business Management at the University of Westminster from 2002 to 2006, where he established and chaired an industry advisory board, alongside a visiting lectureship in MA Arts Management at City, University of London.

A proprietary matching methodology packaged into a market-facing product suite, deployed in institutional settings, positioned for an enterprise channel, and merged with a second venture into a single commercial entity.

Education and workforce technology

Repositioning a long-running platform build from education operator to capability infrastructure for institutional investors. Full investor narrative produced and in circulation. Federal grant and accelerator applications developed around the platform architecture.

United Kingdom higher education venture

Private higher education, United Kingdom market entry

Co-developed the proposition, market analysis and business architecture for a private higher education group targeting entry to the United Kingdom sector, structured around institutional partnership, educational technology and consulting delivery. Included sector analysis of demand, existing provision and changing skills requirements, an operating model across delivery units, and a partnership route into accredited provision.
